Hanwha’s key defence subsidiaries will participate in CANSEC 2024, Canada's annual, global defence and security trade show (CANSEC) to be held from May 29-30 at the EY Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, to present their world-class artillery and naval technologies. This is the first time that Hanwha will showcase its defence capabilities in the prestigious Canadian defence exhibition, laying the groundwork for a strategic expansion into the North American defence market.
Hanwha Ocean will display three naval platforms: the KSS-III submarine, the ‘Ghost Commander’ unmanned command and control ship, and the Li-ion battery system for submarines.
The KSS-III is the world's best diesel submarine, featuring longer underwater operational capability and enhanced armaments compared to previous models. The submarine is the first in the world to incorporate the Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system with Li-ion batteries, ensuring the longest underwater endurance among non-nuclear power diesel submarines. Additionally, it is outfitted to carry a variety of weapons such as torpedoes and cruise missiles.
A conceptual model for the Republic of Korea Navy’s future operational requirements, the Ghost Commander is capable of commanding and controlling unmanned forces such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).

Hanwha Defense USA (HDUSA), an American defence subsidiary of South Korea’s largest aerospace and defence company Hanwha Aerospce, will present its premier artillery systems, such as the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer (SPH) and K239 Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MRLS).
Nicknamed “Thunder,” the K9 is a 155mm/52-calibre tracked artillery system that is in-service with nine countries, including five NATO members - Poland, Norway, Estonia, Finland and Turkey. The K9 is optimized for the ‘Shoot-and-Scoot’ mission to fire multiple projectiles and move to a different position, which can help avoid potential counter-fire.
The K239 Chunmoo is a state-of-the-art MRLS that is in-service with three nations, including South Korea and Poland. The Korean MRLS can fire several kinds of rockets and missiles, featuring its flexibility and adaptability to align with various operational requirements.
